playlist + interview: pan/tone

Growing up in the Northern regions of Ontario, Pan/Tone aka Shelbono “Barracuda” del Monte aka Sid LeRock spent most of his youth in lots of snow. He currently lives in Cologne, Germany, has over 20 releases, 3 albums and so many aliases we wonder how he does to even keep HIS head clear! No clue, but you can listen to some tracks off his current album “Skip the Foreplay”.

Whats up in Pan/Tone’s world right now?

Well, I finally got around to doing a Pan/Tone album. It’s been a long time coming but its completed and now I’m stretching my legs after long months of studio work.

Where are you going with this new album?

Everywhere, anywhere I can possibly take me and my music.

You are releasing it on your own label, cereal/killers?

I sure am. Nothing like taking your own risks by self releasing your own music.

On one level you’re the artist sure and proud of your accomplishments and on the other, you’re the label exec working your ass off making sure this album sees the light of day.

Are you seriously confused sometimes with all your aliases?

Of course!, who’s this interview about again?

What are you currently listening to beside electronic music?

Actually, that’s just it, I prefer to listen to anything else but electronic music. I hear enough of it at the clubs and festivals. Outside of that, it’s “no go for techno”.

Unlike a lot of music producers, you moved to Cologne, not Berlin?

Hell finally freezed over. I am now just another Canadian in Berlin.

What would be your dream team party line-up?

I’ve already had that dream come true, performing a special live show with my best friends (Ada, Metope, Fairmont) as “the Cereal/Killers “at Melt 2007.

Your favorite night drink and your trick to recover the morning after?

It all depends on my mood but I usually find comforts in a glass of whiskey scotch on the rocks .

Lots of water and ginger ale is my best recover tip.
