How has Fairtilizer helped your career?
Fairtilizer has been instrumental in my career by giving me international exposure. To have people from all over the world come to my Fairtilizer page and judge me, not off of how I look but just what the music sounds like is the dopest thing ever. It’s in my opinion what a MySpace should have been.Tell me about your High School experience. Were you the cool girl, beauty queen, female athlete of none of the above?
I was a cool person overall. I hung out with everybody, and accepted people for who they are.Is your family religious? Are you?
Yes I come from a religious background and faith is what keeps me.Who has given you the most emotional and financial support while you work on your music?
My mother has been here for it all. But my management team The Academy, LLC is who helps me with the emotional and financial support. They focus on the setup for me, making sure I’m in a position to endure success when it comes. Being an artist is about the endurance…out lasting others. When do you plan to move to NY?
I’d love to move back today, but realistically it probably wouldn’t happen until after I finish up with my project over in the UK/EU. I’m in construction stage of my career. I think people are to in a rush to live in a LA, NY, or ATL. Preparation is what it’s about.
What’s your favorite junk food?
I have so many, but I guess I’d have to say “Grandma Oatmeal Cookies,” “Chip Ahoy” soft chocolate chip cookie and butter pecan ice cream. And I can’t forget chocolate. I just love junk food period. Doesn’t matter what it is.Who is your favorite fashion designer and why?
Personally I would have to say Washington Roberts. His line is everyday as well as night on the town attire. It’s sexy, sophisticated, and classy and that’s what I love. As far as mainstream designers, I would have to say Vera Wang. From evening gowns to accessories, Vera is dope. I also like Chloe, Dolce, Gucci. There is so many I could name, and to many to count. Get my album it’s littered all throughout. How old were you when you realized that you wanted to rap?
There wasn’t an age that I woke up and said I wanted to rap. I’m not just a rapper. It just kind of happened. I always knew how to rap but I was more into singing, you know. I started rapping when I moved to Washington State to start working on my album, with one of my managers (Jamel Johnson.) He was testing how diverse I was as an artist. He threw on a beat and it was history. Rap is fun.Do you sleep on the right, left of dead center in the middle of the bed?
I sleep on the right side of my bed.
If you had 10K to spend on anything in the world right now, what would you spend it on?
A 3rd of a key of coke! Nah, you don’t spend 10K. You invest 10K, me I would buy a used Winnebago (RV) and get this music to the people. And rent it out to other local artist or indie bands. And get that money back.
How do you hone your craft and lyrical delivery?
Hours and hours of artist development, listening and really working at how it comes across to the people. And every now and then I cipher to let people know what it is. It’s not fair but I do it.What inspires you?
Life inspires me. To be able to wake up every day to do what I love is a blessing. What’s your biggest pet peeve about guys?
Weakness…I hate it.Do you like girls?
I love beautiful people be it man or woman. If I like you and I like spending time with you then that’s what it is, date a woman no, do a women yes why not? I think as a country we’re to homophobic.Have you ever thought of doing something other than making music?
Yes I thought about being a publicist. I actually went to college and majored in communication. I also wanted to be a chef. I love to cook…I get that from my mother. Before I moved to Washington State I was thinking of switching my major and schools to be a chief and going to culinary arts school.Tell me about your boyfriend?
You tell me about him, because I didn’t know I had one. I don’t have a boyfriend…I’m a single woman. I really don’t have time for one right now I’m so focused on my career. This is that time to focus on my future. So for right now my music is my boyfriend. Is there any feature/service we could build for you?
I’m open to all help as long as it makes sense. I don’t have an ego nor am I opposed to suggestions that will help me take me career to the next level.
Any recommended music sites (services, shop, blogs…)?
My recommended sites would definitely those who blogs that showed me love at the very earliest stages of my career such as Pleasedontstare, Cmongood, Thefembassy, Fairtilizer, and Highsnobiety. Fairtilizer.com of course being a place where artist of all walks of life can share ideas, passions, and most importantly music. I also like Eleetmusic.com for all of the knowledge that one can learn as far as the marketing of digital music goes. It’s a difficult time for the music industry. How do you see the future of it?
I believe that it is difficult for major label artist because they are not as nimble as an artist in my position. For me it’s about getting music out, building a fan base, and staying true to that base. For artists like myself that’s easier to do now more so then ever before. 10 years ago I wouldn’t be able to do half of the things I’ve done. To have my music played on Internet radio, Music Choice, and a host of blog’s is an accomplishment. As far as the future of music…artists will have to get back to the basics. Get promotional tools, do shows, and deliver music at a quicker pace…then give away that music just so people will care to know who you are. They are also going to have to go back to school and learn properly make music. Music theory will have more producers and engineers in it than ever before…that right there is going to be the equalizer. I wouldn’t be surprised if they came out with an application that allows you to record a song with your iPhone. I believe it’s going to go even more mobile than what it already is.
