Interview:
Hi, how are you doing?
Great! I have a lot of interviews to do, so I’m stoned! It makes it more interesting. What’s goin’ on in Brutal Truth’s world right now?
We just retuned from a show in Chicago where we played the whole new album live. We’re just waiting for the album to come out in mid-April so we’re mostly relaxing, ‘cos we know we’re gonna be really busy soon. What are you currently listening to? What are your all-time Top 10 albums?
Enjoying the new General Surgery recently… top 10?Black Sabbath- Paranoid
Judas Priest- Hell Bent For Leather
Iron Maiden- self titled
Motorhead- Ace Of Spades
Slayer- Reign In Blood
Discharge- Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing
D.R.I.- Dirty Rotten LP
Napalm Death- Scum
Darkthrone- A Blaze In The Northern Sky
Dead Can Dance- Spleen and IdealHow is the scene in New York at the moment?
I don’t know! I moved out of there almost 7 years ago, I live 360 mi (540 km) away in Rochester, NY now. But the scene here is great! You are back after a several years hiatus: how were the first reactions you got when you announced your return? How do you see the scene now?
The first reactions were quite manic, people got very excited when they heard that we were gonna do a show, we got slammed with myspace messages on our personal pages, it was very inspiring.
The grindcore scene now seems to be quite healthy, which of course is a very good thing for us… it has more variety now. I think goregrind is a little silly, but it’s just entertainment to me, not everyone has to have a message I guess. You influenced a lot of bands in the last 10 years: any new bands you like/dislike?
That depends on what you call “new”. Certainly bands like Rotten Sound, Misery Index and Nasum are fucking great and I know from speaking with them that they were influenced by us. I honestly do not follow the scene very closely so that’s all I can say here. How important is the internet for you as a band? Is it something you are into or you don’t give a fuck?
It certainly helps with promoting your band and announcing shows and other band-related events, and it’s cool to communicate with your fans directly on myspace, so that side of it is cool. I think it doesn’t matter if you give a fuck or not, you HAVE to use the internet ‘cos everyone else does and that’s what they’re used to.We are in a world with a lot of different models on the net (free streaming, digital stores, mobile, etc…): what kind of service should be brought to the table?
There should be a way to donate directly to bands if you’re gonna download their albums on torrent sites. If you’re going to download the new BT without buying it, it would be fucking nice if you sent us a couple of euros at least.Where do you see this whole internet thing going?
Eventually no one will buy cds anymore, you will download the music and artwork from the label, and maybe there will be more control over illegal downloading…Anything to add?
Thanks very much to all the grindcore maniacs for welcoming us back on our return to active duty. We hope you enjoy the new album!!
