Twin Sister

Long Island-bred, Brooklyn-based fantasizers, Twin Sister, have the blogosphere abuzz. With two sweltering EPs under their belt, they have every reason to. Andrea (”Dre”) Estella, lead vocalist, recently took the time out to share a few words with Fairtilizer below:
The story of Twin Sister began roughly two years ago in the summer of ‘08. Growing up in neighboring towns and playing in separate bands within similar circles led to the formation. Prior to Twin Sister, Dre and Eric Cardona (guitarist in TS) were in a band called Vampires, where Eric did most of the singing and Dre played drums and bass. And before that they were Storm Petrel. And before that…they were just kids. Some of the Twin Sister songs were written during the Vampires days. “I Want A House,” for example, is streaming above.
If you’ve been to their website, you’ll notice it’s quite fancy. All of the band members contribute but the wizardry can be solely credited to keyboardist, Udbhav (”Dev”) Gupta. Built on Django, written in Python, Twin Sister has one of the sharpest websites in the music space. Something crucial for a band on the rise. We’re going to do them a favor and link to it right here. ; )

They credit a lot of their early success and devlopment to Hunter Giles of Infinite Best Recordings. “We just wanted to give it all away for free but the Internet can only do so much,” said Dre. “He booked our first shows.” Hunter has been instrumental in connecting the dots for a band that wants to focus primarily on the music. Hey, labels still matter regardless of what you hear.
Dre’s spinning a lot of “Cheesy 80’s music” as of late. Janet Jackson, Madonna and Teen Dream’s “Let’s Get Busy” all in heavy rotation. The video for “Let’s Get Busy” is a true gem. Watch here:
“Oh, and the new Ariel Pink!” We’re big fans here too.
The band’s visual appeal is just as exciting as their sound. When asked what visual artist she’d pair the band’s tunes with, Dre replied “Probably, my friend Jonny Negron who we’d like to direct one our music videos. Also, my friend Jaime Martinez who’s behind the animated .gif’s for M.I.A. [and N.E.E.T. Recordings].” Her favorite color is “bermuda green or aqua.” Just an FYI.
What’s next for Twin Sister?
In August they embark on a North American tour with kindred spirits, Memoryhouse.Color Your Life (self-released) and Vampires With Dreaming Kids (Infinite Best Recordings) out now in the US. UK release of both EPs coming in September via Domino.
