New single taken from her critically acclaimed album “Boys” on City Slang. Free download + bonus interview below:

What are you up to at the moment?
Hanging out in Nashville, enjoying the autumn and listening to a lot of old country music.

It’s a changing time for the music industry: how do you see the future of it?
Hard to tell what’s going to happen: there is so much out there it’s overwhelming.

How do you use & see the web today. How do you see it evolving in the coming
years?

I’m a news junkie and just cancelled my subscription to the daily paper
which I’ve taken for years. I now refer to online sources which makes me
wonder when and if these paper publications will be in trouble or even
extinct? But I think the level of credibility will shrink.

What would be your dream online music service?
One that lets me find what I want and not one that tells me what I’ll like.
The thought of having someone else choose my music and predict what I like
irks me, quite frankly. There’s no formula to taste.

Servicing promos: digital or physical?
Nothing beats the feeling of having a record in your hand: it makes it feel
more real. But digital promo saves money, energy, space and time.

Distribution: DIY or aggregator?
For me, working with a record label is best, but I really think it depends
upon each individual act’s circumstances.

You have some buzz in an emerging country but no way to monetize it, would
you give away your music for free to keep growing it?

I’m not a big fan of giving away music for free on any grand scale. It costs
money to make it, it costs money to distribute it, so it needs to pay for
itself somehow, but I recognise that sharing sometimes helps within the
bigger picture. However, I think that should be the exception: artists
deserve to be paid as much as anyone else for their work. A carpenter might
give away a couple of shelves to prove he can make them, but he won’t always
work for free.

How do you deal with / prevent / use an (un)official leak?
You just have to get over it. What else can you do? I just wish music could
be released quicker so that leaks weren’t really an issue.

Could you tell us what is the most important source of income today?
Well, everyone says it’s all about touring and synchs. I’m not able to tour
a lot so I’m relying on the synchs.

Recommended music site (services, shop, blogs…)
Well, I have to recommend The Quietus because my manager writes for them. I also love Nashville Creamand I
keep an eye on Pitchfork too.

How’s the scene in Nashville?
The scene is brilliant and growing all the time – so many neat things
happening I feel like something magical happens every time I go out into the
city – there are hundreds of talented people living in Nashville at the
moment, its quite fun.

Places of interest in Nashville?
I love to go honky tonkin on Lower Broad. Lower Broad is the main strip in
Nashville where all the cowboy boots live, but it has this gritty appeal
that is just wonderful.

Best thing that happened to you recently?
I took a train trip from Bergen to Oslo in Norway in the spring that was
just phenomenal.

Number one place to eat in Nashville?
Jimmy Carl’s barbeque down town in an old bluegrass hall. It¹s the best
barbeque in the world.

A movie you would like to watch now, right now?
Prince: Purple Rain.

Best place to live?
I love Nashville. I don¹t think there’s any place I’d rather be.

Last album you enjoyed listening?
Jefferson Airplane: Surrealistic Pillow

Best TV shows (current and ever)?
The Office and American Bandstand

Last book you enjoyed reading?
Oscar Wilde: The Picture of Dorian Gray

How do you know what time it is?
I have children.

Fave night drink and morning beverage?
Night drink: Bloody Mary
Morning drink: Cappucino

Smoking or non-smoking clubs?
Non smoking.
