Rumpelstiltskin Grinder (Relapse): exclusive mix and interview
February 3rd, 2009 | Posted in exclusive, metal![]()
“The Pennsylvanian quintet mixes Kreator’s manic speed with Anthrax’s knuckle-head bounce” – REVOLVER.
That says it all! Rumpelstiltskin Grinder delivers heavy riffs with frantic rhythms as witnessed on their latest album Living For Death HERE. They did a great “influences” mix with tracks by Slayer, Sepultura, SOD, Devastation, Morbid Angel…Time for a serious headbanging session and a bit of air guitar!
Hi, how are you doing?
Yo what’s up Jerome my man! What’s happenin’ brother!
What’s goin’ on in Rumplestilskin Grinder’s world right now?
Our new album “Living for Death, Destroying the Rest” just came out a week ago in the USA. You heard it yet? It totally rules.
What are you currently listening to?
Toxic Holocaust and Misery Index both came out with great albums last year. Keep an eye out for Tombs next month. Their album comes out in February on Relapse records. They recently toured in the UK.
How is the scene in Pennsylvania at the moment?
There’s a very diverse scene including the young the old the fast the slow, everything in between. Our recording engineer Dan O’Hare helped us a lot with production in his studio. It’s called Mark it Zero studio and Total Fucking Destruction and Brutal Truth have also recorded there.
You were one of the very first bands to put a bit of fresh air into the thrash scene: how do you see the scene now?
Every town has a handful of decent thrash bands. There are lots of good thrash bands around Philly like The Gloominous Doom, Trasher, BSOM (burning sack of midgets), Vulcan, Pizza Face, Fruit of the Doom and many others. It’s always fun to play with bands of this style.
You are releasing your new album in a difficult moment in the music industry: does it affect you? How do you see the future of the industry?
Fuck it. No one makes any money playing metal until they get to the point where they’re playing in sports arenas. So until then we’re just in it go have a good time and enjoy what we do.
How important is the internet for you as an artist?
It helps out a lot getting our band’s name out there. It’s really important for free porn too. The internet has made almost everything free now, but I rarely take advantage of that myself.
We are in a world with a lot of different models on the net (free streaming, digital stores, mobile, etc…): which kind of services should be brought to the the table?
I’m not really computer savvy with all that stuff. I know how to use all those things but it’s hard to tell right now which is the best for our band to get involved with. I hear the new album is doing very well on iTunes.com already.
Where do you see this whole internet thing going?
I’m more concerned with the post apocalyptic era when there is no more internet. I can’t wait until everyone has robot parts. That’s going to be awesome.
Anything to add?
Yes beware the thrash brigade or you might get stabbed in the balls! A votre santé to all of you sick fucks in France! Thanks for the interview.
