sourcedecalcium: playlist and interview

December 15th, 2008 | Posted in electronic, house, remix, techno

The Source De Calcium blog started as reviews of Montreux Jazz Festival concerts and quickly developped into a full-fledged music resource. Now based in Paris, the blog delivers exclusives, remixes, rarities and much more on a (almost) daily basis.

Founder Antoine Buffard picked his 10 favorite tracks of 2008 and answered some of our questions.

What’s the story behind the Sourcedecalcium blog, how did it start?

Behind Source de Calcium, there’s a lot of dairy products, especially some Yop. It gave me stronger, denser bones early in life and it keeps me healthy.

I’ve been using this strength in my Livejournal for a long time. And in 2007, while working at the Montreux Jazz Festival, I started the MJF reviews on Blogger. It lead to the blog as it is today.

How do you pick things you post on your blog?

I spend most of my Internet time on blogs, websites like Fairtilizer that I use for my playlists, and labels and netlabels pages to see what’s out. I like to get my tracks on the very day they appear on the web. But that’s just one part of it. I also spend time talking with one of my best friends who’s a great crate digger. We are really into french psychedelic and sexual music from the late 60’s right now! And I work for TRAX Magazine which gives me access to a huge amount of new releases, EP’s and LP’s, from all around the world. But in the end it’s all about meeting people all the time through different means.

What are the artists you currently follow?

BSBTRGDCLUB, FREON, KODH, KAZEY & BULDOG, DABAAZ, WTF, BUMS POLO ROTTEN CLUB, CLARK, LAZY FLOW, TIMID BOY, SUPER NACHO, TANZ/TANZ, TECHJIO…That’s for music. But I also follow painters, movie makers, graphic designers, fashion designers, photographers…like: Artus de la Villéon, Alec Soth, Amélie Covillard, Brandy Tribble, The Judge, Bérangère Claire.

What’s gonna be the big thing in 2009?

Hardtek, 170 to 185 bpm. Strong sounds influenced by the fidget way of making those music. WHAMP WHAMP!

What other blogs do you visit regularly?

The Mothership, Corporate Bloggin, Mad Decent, Sensitive Touching, The Arab Parrot.

How do you see the internet evolve in the next few years?

More control, less anarchy. Unfortunately.
