playlist and interview: rafale

French club-rock group Rafale just dropped a fabulous ep, Rock it Don’t Stop it, that should keep you on high energy level for a while. Not only does it include the ravaging title track, but also remixes by Institubes co-founder/TTC producer Tacteel and Tepr. To celebrate, Rafale take you on the perfect vacation with their summer playlist. Daft Punk, Eric Prydz, Mötorheads, Foals and so on. You’re gonna like this one!

What’s your playlist about?

It’s just some tracks we love to hear and play during parties. There are some which are very clubby (Daft Punk for example) and some which are more rockish like “The Ace of Spades” by Mötorhead. To me this playlist is a good way to show people what are Rafale’s influences.

What are you up to right now?

We just finished a remix for Benjamin Diamond which will appear on his new EP, and another one for a Japanese artist called Oddity. This one should be on his album due out in September. In July we worked on new tracks with old keys. It was very exciting to work on new materials with these old engines…We still have to work on these tracks, but I hope we will be able to put them on a second EP in the future.
We’re about to work with Akroe (who did the artwork for our debut EP) on a limited edition of 100 shirts based on the Rock It Don’t Stop It design.

What were the criterias to pick the remixers for “Rock it Don’t stop it”?

We wanted Tepr cause he’s a friend and we love his album Côte Ouest and most of his remixes. He gives a new image to tracks he messes with. For Tacteel, it’s Marc from Rise Recordings, who told us that it could be cool. We knew his work as a producer for TTC and when we heard his remix, we were not disappointed at all. It’s a reintepretation of our track, it’s very cool !

What are you current favorite songs and movies?

Mmmh, I’ll say “E” by T. Raumshmiere, lot of tracks by Crookers, Cirkus of Popof, and many more. It’s been a long time since I went to the movie theatre, but the last film I loved is “À l’intérieur”.

How is the scene in Paris at the moment?

Ha ha ha, we don’t live in Paris but in Brittany, so it’s not easy for us to talk to you about that. But if you’re in Paris, you should go to La Flèche d’Or. It’s a club where a lot of bands play and there are gigs every night.

How important is the internet for you and where do you see it going?

It’s the place where people began to hear our tracks and where we got to know all people who support Rafale now, it’s very important for us. To me, in the future, internet will be more than ever the place to launch a new band. It’s so easy to connect with all people of music business! But you shouldn’t forget that the easier these people are to approach, the better music you will have to make to stand out.

What was you best night out and what would be your dream team line for a party?

We have the best line up! Ha ha ha! The best night we had with Rafale was the one during which we met people from French magazine Tsugi. Just after the show they came to tell us “we want you to play at the Bataclan in Paris”. For me it was amazing! Another night was when we played at Les Transmusicales festival in Rennes. We played in front of 2500 people at 4am. It’s my best concert memory so far.
