He produced songs for MC Solaar as a part of La Funk Mob, he’s one half of Cassius…the legendary Boombass is in the building! The French producer/dj comes through with wonderful mix. It’s 100% exclusive.

Boombass makes predictions on the future of music, talks about Paris and his current projects in a short interview. It’s right below.

Hi, how are you doing?

Hello I’m very good, thank you Mr. Tilizer.

What’s goin’ on in Boombass’ world right now?

I’m doing some dj stuff with my brother zdar for Cassius and a bit of djing alone.
Just finished remixes for Son Of Dave and 33Hz. Trying to do one for Femi Kuti and preparing new track for the next Cassius album.

What are you currently listening to?

I’m into the old 80’s and 90’s Chicago sound right now. Also playin’ Lil Wayne’s “A Milli” very loud, and I’m going back to old Dr. Dre sounds. With a little bit of German minimal on the top. And a few maximal tracks for dessert.

How is the scene in Paris at the moment?

The scene is still really creative and surprising. Of course, there’s many great artists and producers such SebastiAn, Surkin, Les Petits Pilous, Uffie, Joakim, Justice, Jackson, Mehdi, in no particular order and among a lot of other I forgot.

We are now facing difficult times in the music industry: how do you see it in the future?

I think difficulties are coming from the old men who rule the business. They realize things too late. In 2 or 3 years nobody except my grand daddy will want to buy a cd. For me the future is music for free on the net. We will earn money with advertising, concerts or djing, or working in a restaurant.
It’s the end of copyright and the end of record companies as they exist. We really turn into the 21st Century now. There’s a global crisis because we are following rules by old people who think like in the Sixties. The music business is now a nearly non profit business and that’s good for the quality of music. I think now there’s much more better stuff than 6 years ago.

How important is the internet for you as an artist?

Very very very important. It’s a direct link with the people you’re concerned about, and the best tool to stay up to date from wherever you live.

We are in a world with a lot of different models on the net: which kind of services should be brought on the table?

Access to culture, information and exchange.

Where do you see this whole internet thing going?

In the pockets of old bald and fat businessmen like always, but in a modern way.

Anything to add?

I love your site.
