When punk music gets its energy from harnessing the human urge to dance and have a good time, Totally Michael comes in. Armed with a guitar and home recording software, Michael transformed into Totally Michael, a buyoant musician with a knack for pop hooks and a perpetual adoration for blink-182. Check some tracks off his album (out now on IHEARTCOMIX).
Who are you and where do you come from?
I’m Michael and I come from the Boonies. I grew up in Cabot, AR, but have been residing in Bloomington, IN for close to four years. What’s up in Totally Michael world?
My first full length album just came out on IHEARTCOMIX and I’m pumped. I’ve been waiting forever for this. I feel like it’s my birthday. What are you currently listening to?
Jesse McCartney “Leavin’”. Sooooo good. Not joking. How is the scene in Bloomington, Indiana, what artists should we check for?
The punk scene here is kind of clicky. Music scene is actually pretty good. There’s a wide variety of stuff going on. We’ve got local hip hop, punk, indie, and quite a few jam bands if you’re into that stuff. Check out a band called Prizzy Prizzy Please. They’re amazing dudes that make amazing music. What about cool spots, clubs, restaurants and so on?
The quarries in the summertime are always amazing. There are some sick hills to sled down in the winter. The Vid is a nice local bar where you’re bound to see some friends.Do you feel the era of cd’s is definitely over?
Man I really hope not. Mine just came out! But I definitely do kind of feel like that. I mean when I think about it, I haven’t bought a physical cd in years. But I think that’s mostly cause I’m usually broke as a joke.Dream team line up for a party?
Flosstradamus, Blink 182 reunion, and Prince. What’s gonna be the big thing for club music in 2009?How important is the internet for you?
Oh man. My internet was down for like a couple days at my house and I freaked out. Does that mean I’m addicted? As an artist, what kind of services do you expect from the internet?
I expect to be able to keep in contact with friends and people who are into my music. I can let people know where I’m going to be. I can let them listen to new tracks and get feedback. I can sell merchandise. Book tours. Pretty much everything I need to do.Your favorite night drink and your trick to recover the morning after?
I’m pretty into cheap beers. High Life -4- Life. And I’m kind of like a super hero when it comes to hangovers. I’m pretty sure I’ve only have three or four hangovers in my life. It’s pretty sweet. But water is always good.Anything to add?
Listen to my album and buy it if you’re into it. Let’s dance!
