Don Rimini interviews Sinden: see what happens when 2 super heroes of the club scene discuss studio preferences, baseball hats, favorite clubs and African music.

Do you really need to be an alcoholic to be a good dj?

No, but it helps.

If you had taken another alias what would it be (you’re not allowed to pick the name Don Rimini)? Bassline Killer? Fingermasterscratchertracker?

Dj ham sandwich

Do you produce all your tracks at home?

Yeah in the Woolwich lab. Fuck a nice studio.

Rather in daily job 10am-7pm type hours or rather 7pm-10am? For me it’s definitely the latter.

I like to get up early and keep the hours sensible.

Are you more analog or software plug-ins?

Plug ins all day!

How the fuck do you get that sound you have? Your bass, the texture of your sound? Come on tell us the secret!

That’s the Frosties secret formula. My lips are sealed!

I’m real extreme with selecting tracks for my mixes, I can spend a lot of time on picking songs. How did you select songs for your Fabric mix?

Itunes shuffle! Nah it was a proper brain melting process. I based my mix around 5 or 6 key tracks and styles and picked music that complimented them.

What’s your favorite club when it comes to deejaying?

Fabric. Really like playing ‘digital’ in Newcastle too.

What are the best places to deejay at, as far as regions? UK? Europe? Australia? USA? Japan??

Uk is mostly wicked. Australia is next level. Europe is hit and miss. USA is mostly miss. Going to Japan in December.

Tell us a funny club night story.

Any story with Dave Taylor at the club.

What’s the track you play the most these days?

Ron Browz - Pop Champagne

I came to a few of your parties at Fabric…the sound was so loud that it wasn’t even possible to have a conversation in the club…crazy! Did Steve Austin lend you his ears?

Ha, you weak French. Do they not have ear plugs in over there?

When the hell are we gonna tour together?!

I’m down!

Do you come from drum n’ bass? Or clearly from hiphop? Or maybe you are a young rave kid…haha

Hip hop and bands mostly.

You’re often associated with Switch, Herve of course, but also Fake Blood. Aside from doing gigs with you, what roles do they play?

They are my production buddies and collaborators. I work with Herve as The Count. I signed Fake Blood’s EP to the Cheap Thrills label. Switch and me made a whole bunch of things together a few years back.

Do you prefer to work in solo mode or you favor collabs?

Both for different reasons. Collabs are cool when you meet someone on your level.

I’m a big fan of your remix for Stuffa feat. Mapei - Pretty Girls. What’s the remix you’re the most proud of? Which one of your remixes do you play the most?

Thanks man, I’m really proud of the Tigerstyle balle shava remix. Recently I’ve been playing out the sneaky sound system remix in all my sets.

Do you follow the French scene a bit? Ed Banger, Institubes, Kitsuné, Yuksek…A bunch of lazy asses these French people, no? Hahaha.

Yeah I love some of that scene - there’s loads of talented guys in France, you included.

These days I truly feel the emergence of a an “ethno-club” sound, brought by Diplo, Radioclit, Mujawa, Kudurosoundsystema…Do you feel Africa is what’s up?

Yeah more and more people are looking for inspiration in Africa. That is definitely what’s up

How do you see the new fidget generation (Foama, Detboi…) following your path? You feel it’s cool cause they’re a part of the dynamics of the scene or you feel they lack identity and don’t bring much?

Detboi is cool because he’s got his own style, the majority of them are wack!

If you had to pick one UK old school king who would it be? Basement Jaxx? Roni Size? Altern8? Fatboy Slim? Carl Cox? James Bond?

The Monty Python team are the old school comedy kings.

What’s the future of club music?

You and me.

Do you feel, like me, that baseball hats should be worn all seasons?

Absolutely fitted caps 365 days a year. Deerstalker caps and beanies for the cold season.
