Nobody Beats the Drum are from Holland, do electro break and hiphop, are good fun and look like giant hypergalactic robots on stage! Kanye West dscribed their video as “some cool weird shit”, posted it on his blog and it got 500.000 views . Fresh tunes on the player + interview & bonus videos below:

Hi Nobody Beats The Drum , what are you up to at the moment?
$: We are working on a digital EP release, making plans for a new video, preparing for a summer full of festivals and playing gigs every weekend.
R: Besides that I’m just about to clean my toilet.

What is Nobody Beats The Drum about, can you introduce yourself to our readers?
$: We are an electronic band, based in Amsterdam. we consist of 3 three people: 2 producers/musicians and one VJ/video director.
R: We make beats and combine them with fitting visuals. When we play live we bring our whole studio with us. Buttons, buttons, buttons! And we will use everything we’ve got to make as much noise (audio and visual wise) as we can.

What’s your new release about, future projects?
$: In the past years our sound became a lot louder. The new release will be even more rave and acid than our earlier stuff. In the nearby future we want to release more digitally and do more remixes.
R: We’re also making a new video for the song ‘Purple Cactus’.

How’s the scene in the Netherlands?
$: There are a lot of good parties! The electronic music scene has been growing fast. Because sometimes people don’t know if we’re a band or a dj/collective dance producers thingy, they get confused. That’s our weakness and our strength at the same time.
R: Holland is pretty small, still their are a lot of good musicians and dj’s here. But because it’s so small we’ve played in almost every town and venue now, so if France is ready to welcome us, we’re ready to be welcomed!

Places to go to when on holiday in your city?
$: Mc Donalds!
R: If you like coffee you should visit a coffee shop once, they usualy serve pretty good coffee in Amsterdam.

We are in a difficult time for the music industry: how do you see the future for it?
$: Releases have become a promotional tool for doing gigs. It used to be the other way around. We love to do shows and people like to see us play. We’re not really worried, because people will always pay to see a good band or have a good night out. You can’t download that! It will get harder when we get older and for instance have kids, because then we probably don’t want to play 4 gigs a weekend anymore. Then we’ll work at Mc Donalds.
R: Whe’re pretty happy that our live shows are our strength, as long as there are upcoming live shows in our agenda, there’s a little bit of future for us.

How important is the internet for you today and how do you see it evolving in the coming years?
$: It’s very important for the kind of music we make. It’s not “easy listening”, not everyone that hears it will like it. Now we can find people that like it all across the world.
R: With our latest video, ‘The Drum’ we reached a pretty large audience which we had never reached if Youtube didn’t excist. Somehow Kanye West saw it and posted the video on his blog, wich widened our audience also, after that people from all over the world saw the thing.

We are in a world with a lot of different models on the net regarding music: What kind of service should be brought to the table?
$: Pffffew! There are so many already. I really like sites that will help you define your taste and give suggestions about other music you might like. Like last.fm or Hypem.com. When I Dj, I use Serato. It would be cool to have really fast WIFI everywhere and a database of (free!) music, that’s compatible with that. For instance; you take your laptop to the club, but there’s no music on that thing. You stream it directly to your computer and play it as if it were on vinyl. Just thinking out loud here!

As an artist how do you use the web today, what would be the ultimate one stop place for all your digital needs (private and public)?
R: I think there isn’t one typical place, I think it’s all about searching and hearing from other peoples or blogs where good stuff is to be found.

What are you currently listening to?
$: Hmm just the usual loud stuff! Proxy, Buraka Som Sistema, Hostage, Boy 8 Bit, Diplo, AC Slater, Jackbeats, etc. etc. There are so many others. Oh the new prodigy album is cool too!
R: Somehow I realy like Raphael Saadiq’s latest album, It’s realy based on that old Motown feeling, it’s cool. As far as electronic music, I think Shadowdancer, Fake Blood and les Petites Pilous just a few of good artists, I also like the whole dubstep genre a lot. There is indeed a lot of cool stuff happening right now.
