After 2 albums and a soundtrack for Zoé Cassavetes, djing & playing live all over the world, Parisian duo Scratch Massive are about to release “Joy” , an eclectic & sinuous selection of their musical universe at 120 bpm like the beat of a heart in love.
Please introduce yourself.
Scratch Massive is two people : one girl, one boy. What are you up to at the moment?
We’re doing music and just finished our first short movie (and we did the music for it too). What’s your new release about?
It’s about collecting tracks you never can use for so long.
We had tons of tracks that were too slow, or without any dancefloor feel.
The concept was to re-edit those tracks and mix them together with today’s music, Joy was born.
We are now working on our 3rd studio album and shot our second short movie called ‘Hospital’.How’s the scene in Paris?
As a Parisian, I don’t have enough distance to answer this question.
There are still a lot of parties, but since the Pulp closed, it’s more big events and big events, in big clubs etc…
I think at the end of the day I prefer small clubs, you’re closer to the people.Places to go to when on holiday in your city?
If you love nightclubbing, you will go to the Rex Club or the Social Club, and probably find some parties in big flats, then for the day after you can chill at the Palais Royal garden. And then if you are hung over, you have a lot of Japanese restaurants in the same area (1st arr.), you can find really good and not expensive ones…after that you go to the 3rd district in the best vintage store for sound equipement, etc…We are in a difficult time for the music industry: how do you see the future for it?
Since the music is free, it’s interesting to look for some new way of earning money with music, everybody has to be more creative, but it’s a really difficult moment for musicians. Maybe do some music attached to something else, as a complementary source. How important is the internet for you today and how do you see it evolving in the coming years?
I used it tons of time every day, for everything. It’s a nice tool. But i really think in a way i prefered life before internet.
It has really positive things for sure but it’s a monster too, it causes tons of damages and we cannot stop it…We are in a world with a lot of different models on the net regarding music (free streaming, digital stores, mobile, collector vinyl etc.): What kind of service should be brought to the table?
A way to have artists pay back for what they do. We are against laws like hadopi and a new way has to be found for all that…What are you currently listening to?
SO many different things…maybe the last album of The Horrors, Monolake live (that we just saw this week end), the last Louderbach album, etc.Typical tasty Scratch Massive Joke to end?
A last one and we go?
