Whether you know it or not, if you’re a fan of electronic music, you’ve most likely come across the work of Philip Sherburne. With over a decade of bylines to his name, Philip is the columnist behind Pitchfork’s “The Month in Techno” and The Wire’s “Critical Beats,” as well as the editor of Earplug. His deeply informed, always opinionated writing has appeared in a slew of other publications, among them the New York Times, Slate, Frieze, XLR8R, URB, Wired, Spain’s Trax, and Germany’s Groove and De:Bug, as well as books like Audio Culture: Readings in Modern Music and Time Out 1000 Songs to Change Your Life.

Too restless to remain on the receiving end of the speakers, Philip is also known as a moonlighting DJ. He appears regularly at multiple venues in Barcelona (The Loft, Lolita, The Moog, Raum, Fellini, Kubik) and has played in Berlin (Panorama Bar, Maria), Hamburg, Montreal, Chicago, Austin, Seattle, Portland, New York; Santiago and Valparaiso, Chile; and Juarez, Guadalajara, and Mexico City, Mexico. As a DJ, Philip favors the deeper, trippier end of minimal techno, the codeine sway of moody house, and the all-out abandon of the rave.

To round everything out, in the past few years Philip has increasingly turned his attentions towards production, returning to music-making some 15 years after his teenage experiments with synthesizers and a four-track.
