French online mag Street Tease prides itself on covering the freshest emerging talents in areas such as graphic design, music, clothing, or architecture. Their latest side-project is a compilation entitled Laptop, which you can preview in their Fairtilizer playlist. They also added some of their current favorite joints.

We got to ask them a few questions too!

When was Street Tease founded and what’s the concept behind it?

Street Tease is an independent online mag founded in September 2007 by 4 dudes with a passion for people, graphic design, current music, and new technologies. MPY does the art direction, Guillaume does the administrative work, and Léon is our webmaster. I’m the editor and I also take care of collaborations, events, and so on.
From the start our main aim was to feature emerging urban talents (architecture, webdesign, graphice design, music and so on), hence the concept of the city as people (La Ville En Personnes). We try to focus on quality, with nice photography and well-written articles. Quality over quantity for sure. Anyway, we all have jobs on the side, so you know.
Other sections have appeared on Street Tease, notably Street Night which reports on Parisian night life. Shout out to Mamzelle & Maviou who do a great job with this. They’re photographers who recently joined us and whose energy is a true blessing!

How important is music for Street Tease?

It’s always got an important place in the life of our mag, we’re all music lovers with our own taste. It’s truly a kick for us to feature young talented artists who haven’t been featured in 15 other magazines before. It was a natural thing for us to develop a music-related project like Laptop, which also happens to be our first side-project. We try as much as we can to start projects that seem bold for a magazine our size. We secretely hope others will follow the initiative. There’s a lot going on in the internet, between blogs and web magazines, but at the end of the day risk taking is not a usual thing when it comes to special projects. With Laptop we’re trying to offer exposure to artists we love and hopefully it’ll open some doors. It’s easy but we gotta try!

Best music right now?

The Laptop compliation of course…For real though, all tracks we selected are songs we love with no exception! There’s some real bangers on there, notably tracks from boys Electroluxe Family (Jim Starck & Dlid) who are incredible producers and really underrated. Anorak’s track makes me go crazy, this dude is gonna blow up. I love the energy of S.P.A and Fckn Crew with their tracks composed in the Corsican underground, probably with black hoods on! Also R.I.V.E.R., Marvy Da Pimp, Digikid 84, or Delete who have very different styles, their own sound, true melodic quality, and love of “retro”. This has been a very instinctive project, done in 3 months with a lot of love and not much sleep, but we’re really proud of the result. All we want now is feedback.

Best clothes right now?

Our collaboration with Reebok! Sorry I’m on my grind right now! Bérengère who’s super connected and communication chief for Reebok France knew us and was down with project pretty much on the spot. In 2 days we had t-shirts ready to go. I find it amazing that huge brands like Reebok collaborate with small structures like ours. Times are changing.

Best city right now?

Paris, August 30th at La Flèche d’Or for the Laptop Release Party! A crazy night with mad artists, goodies, and a amazing atmosphere. More seriously, I’m very attached to Paris. I had the opportunity to go to New York and London recently, and we don’t have to envy our English speaking friends when it comes to street culture and lifestyle. The only thing that’s a bit annoying in France is the habit for people to criticize the neighbor and rarely share the goods. Let’s unite and collaborate!

How do you see the internet evolve in the next few years?

I wouldn’t be surprised to see many nice magazines appear, a bit like in the US where they don’t hesitate to do magazines in PDF format. I think blogs will lose a bit of steam while quality-oriented magazines with true economic models will grow.

Projects to announce?

What do you think? LAPTOP!
